At Advanced Laser and Skin Cancer Center we’re all about healthy, vibrant skin. Exfoliation is key. Removing the outer layer of dead cells to expose the fresher skin beneath gives your skin a healthy glow. Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, non-surgical option that delivers excellent exfoliation without any downtime. First introduced in Italy nearly 30 years ago, microdermabrasion creates a light, abrasive cleansing of facial skin.
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals to resurface the superficial layer of the epidermis. The crystals are sprayed onto the targeted facial skin and vacuumed away at the same time, along with the dead skin cells and impurities the treatment removes. Microdermabrasion improves sun damage, fine lines, age spots, acne, and superficial scarring.
Who is a good candidate for Microdermabrasion?
There isn’t a person out there who couldn’t benefit from giving our skin’s exfoliation process a little helping hand. That’s exactly what these easy-to-take treatments at Advanced Laser and Skin Cancer Center do.
This is a great treatment because it can be used on all skin colors and types. It cannot cause hyperpigmentation, as some laser procedures do. It doesn’t require any downtime. It’s painless. The only people who cannot have microdermabrasion are those with an active skin infection.
What are the benefits of Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion exfoliates the outer layer of your skin. The treatment works by loosening and removing dead skin cells to reveal younger-looking cells beneath. Our patients from Teaneck and the surrounding areas love what microdermabrasion does for their skin. Microdermabrasion…
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Removes sun-damaged skin
- Reduces age spots
- Reduces melasma
- Reduces hyperpigmentation
- Improves acne and acne scars
- Reduces enlarged pores
- Stimulates new collagen production
And it does all of this without a minute of downtime or recovery.
What People Say About Us!
He’s got it all and so does his assistant, Gabby. Dr. Heaton has the positive personality and he engages well with me and his staff, answered all my questions AND listened. He explains before he proceeds with his course of action and states why. He’s personable, shows me he cares about his patients through a couple of stories and I feel he cares for my dermatological needs and wants his patients comfortable. His asst. Gabby is engaging and a top professional as is Dr. Heaton. I had billing questions and that representative was excellent and helped me. I would also like to thank the professional staff in the front office. As long as he’s working at Advanced Laser & Skin Care Center, he’s my dermatologist for years to come.
What is involved in a Microdermabrasion procedure?
Our microdermabrasion sessions begin with a thorough cleansing of your skin to remove any make-up and oil. Then we take the microdermabrasion handpiece and pass it over the treatment area. The degree of exfoliation is determined by the amount of suction employed and the number of passes made over the skin surface. Because it targets only the superficial layer of the skin, microdermabrasion at Advanced Laser and Skin Cancer Center doesn’t require any local numbing anesthesia. Following treatment, any residual crystals are brushed off, and a cold, wet towel is applied to your face. If deemed necessary, a hydrating mask is applied. The session ends with application of a moisturizer.
Is Microdermabrasion painful?
Microdermabrasion only targets the outermost layer of your epidermis, and patients don’t require any topical anesthesia. Some patients equate the feeling to that of a facial massage, others say they feel a slight warming sensation as the crystals gently abrade the old, damaged outer layer of skin.
Is there any recovery after a Microdermabrasion treatment?
These are completely non-invasive treatments; there isn’t any recovery or downtime with microdermabrasion. Your skin may appear as if you have a mild sunburn for the first few hours after treatment, but this passes quickly. For the first 24 hours, your skin may feel dry, as if you’ve been out in the wind, but applying moisturizer solves that. You should avoid sun exposure for at least a week after your session.
Are there any risks or side effects with Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion doesn’t have any risks or side effects. It can be classified as a “lunchtime procedure” because patients can return to work immediately afterwards. The exfoliation returns a fresh, healthy glow to the skin. Plus, since the procedure uses non-allergenic crystals, it’s excellent even for those with sensitive skin. After your session, you’ll need to protect your new skin from sun exposure by using sunscreen with at least 30 SPF.
How long will the results from my Microdermabrasion last?
Our skin is constantly rebuilding, completely replacing itself in about 28 days for teenagers. As we age, the process slows: for those over 50 it can take up to 84 days for the same skin renewal. The longer it takes for our skin to renew itself, the more build up forms with dead skin cells on the top layer of the skin. This makes our skin look dull and tired. The faster to slower skin renewal time is why young skin looks so much more vibrant than the skin of someone over 50. You can generally expect to enjoy fresher, more vibrant skin for about 30 days. But microdermabrasion improves your skin for longer than that as it also can increase collagen production.
Will I benefit from multiple Microdermabrasion sessions?
You’ll see a more vibrant appearance after just a single microdermabrasion session, but a series of four treatments really exfoliates away dead, dull skin. These sessions should be spaced at two- to three-week intervals. From there, maintenance sessions every month or two keep your skin looking great. These treatments are so easy to take, they can be a great addition to your overall skin care regimen
